Since bonsai specimens can be created out of various species of trees, things like watering frequency, how to prune, when and what kind of fertilizer to use are determined mostly by the species, the agricultural zone, and conditions. However there is some basic fundamentals that will generally apply to all bonsai trees.

  • Remember at the end of the day you Bonsai is a tree so it needs the most important things are a regular watering schedule, and Sunlight.
  • Make sure the tree has course soil with good drainage this prevent the roots from rotting and prevents over watering
  • Recreate the natural conditions of your tree’s species,. Choose species to work with that do well in your zone. For instance since I am located in South Florida; I work with Tropical Bonsai Trees and Bonsai that do well in zone 10a-10b
